Welcome to the history of the Edmonton Ice.

The Edmonton Ice were Edmonton's the last Major Junior hockey team prior to the WHL 2006 Expansion. Prior to the Edmonton Ice the Edmonton region has been home to the Memorial Cup and WCHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings. The Oil Kings last played in Edmonton during the 1978-1979 WHL Season. The Oil Kings moved to Portland in after the 1975-1976 season becoming the Portland Winter Hawks.

After two seasons the Ice were gone...

After two disappointing seasons in Edmonton the Ice relocted to Cranbrook after the 1997-1998 season and became the Kootenay Ice. The Kootenay Ice have enjoyed success after leaving the Alberta Capital.

Lost teams went on to win...

After the Edmonton Oil Kings left the City of Edmonton they continued the success in Portland that they had in Edmonton. The Winter Hawks have won several Western Division and U.S. Division Pennants, several Western Conference Pennants, several WHL League Pennants, and TWO Memorial Cup Championships. The Winter Hawks won the Memorial Cup in 1983 and in 1998.

Likewise can be said of the Kootenay Ice. After the Edmonton Ice left the City of Edmonton they found success in Cranbrook. The Ice have won several Western Division and B.C. Division, Western Conference Pennants, and WHL League Pennants. The Ice have also won ONE Memorial Cup Championship. The Ice won the Memorial Cup in 2002.

Oil King Memorial Cup winning teams...
